Included is a FAQ document regarding Standards-Based Grading. In recent years the Clark-Pleasant Schools have developed a standards based reporting system in grades K-6. Many teachers have poured their talents and time into this system with the intended outcome of better communicating the expected learning outcomes to students and families. They have done this by identifying the Essential Learnings (standards), creating a rubric (scale) to map out the progression students follow as they work toward mastery, and writing assessments paired to the Essential Learnings and rubrics. This system has been transformational for many of our staff members and the way they approach teaching so that every student has the opportunity to achieve mastery.
The system is not without flaws and we work each year to make improvements. The system has been rolled up one grade level at a time for the past few years and we are in discussions about the future of standards based reporting and the feasibility at the secondary levels.
