We are running our annual Good Cheer Fund drive to provide baskets of food to less fortunate families this holiday season. Each classroom teacher has a basket in order to collect items until Tuesday, December 18th. Please send any non-perishable food items or canned goods in with your child; this is a great way to help our Johnson County families who are in need this holiday season!

Clark Elementary is operating on a 2-hour delay, the buses will run 2 hours later than usual. Car riders will be able to enter the building at 10:50 and the tardy bell will ring at 11:10. No breakfast on 2-hour delay days.

Spirit of Giving Day! Clark Elementary will be having a “Spirit of Giving” day on Friday, November 9th. This is a day dedicated to helping our Clark families in need for the holiday season. If your child brings in any donation of $1 or more, s/he may choose one of the following to participate in on November 10th: wear pajamas to school, bring a stuffed animal to school, wear a hat to school or wear sunglasses to school. All proceeds collected will be used to provide holiday assistance for Clark students in need. Cash and/or change is preferred. Any and all donations are welcome and we look forward to seeing our students show their Spirit of Giving!

Lastly, we have a classroom basket competition going on. Teachers were paired together and given a theme for their basket. Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading: • Set the example. Let children see you read. • Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and reading skills. • Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read. Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits. ISTEP testing will begin next week for grades 3-5. Grades 3 & 5 will begin on Monday, 4/16 Grade 4 will begin on Friday, 4/20. It is very important to make sure your child gets a good nights sleep and arrives to school on time.
The art room is in need of empty cereal boxes for an upcoming art project! We would like to have as many as possible-size does not matter and all are accepted! This would be a huge help! Send them with your students or drop them off in the office.

Important Information Regarding the Body Safety Program Clark Elementary will be hosting Detective Terry Hall’s Body Safety program for all students on Tuesday, January 9th, at various times throughout the morning. This is an important program which teaches children to say “no” to unwanted physical advances and that their bodies are private. A Parent Night will be held at Pleasant Crossing Elementary at 6:30pm on Monday, January 8th in the LGI room. This is an opportunity for parents to meet Terry Hall and hear information that will be covered in our student program. Child care will be provided by Honey Grove. An ambulance was called to school and we asked teachers to keep all students in classrooms while the student was attended to by emergency medical responders. Dear Families: On Tuesday, April 18, 2017, the Clark Pleasant Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees approved partnering with Honey Grove Educational Center to provide before and after school care programming for our CPCSC families. Honey Grove will replace our current provider, the YMCA. This will begin with the upcoming 2017-18 school year. The YMCA will continue to provide the before and after care for the remainder of this school year as well as 2017 summer camps. While we have been pleased with our partnership with the YMCA, we had the opportunity to save families significantly off their current monthly expense and offer a variable attendance punch pass system for before and after school care with this transition, while maintaining a similar level of service. Honey Grove currently provides quality before and after school programming at other elementary and middle schools in Johnson County and we are excited to announce this new partnership. We will provide additional information in the near future and rest assured that your children will continue to have before and after care and opportunities for camps during school breaks. Along with the presentation there will be an opportunity to submit questions to a discussion panel of Clark-Pleasant educators.
