🎶 IN THE NEWS: CPMS Teacher Receives Statewide Honor 🎶

Clark-Pleasant Middle School Band Director Kathryn Briel is making headlines after being named the Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA) Middle School Music Educator of Excellence!

Mrs. Briel received the statewide award at the IMEA Professional Development Conference in Fort Wayne. The honor recognizes music educators who demonstrate outstanding achievement and leadership in the field of music education.

Under her direction, the CPMS band program — now nearly 500 students strong — continues to excel. This year alone:
• 338 students participated in ISSMA Solo & Ensemble
• Every performer earned a Gold rating
• An 8th grade clarinetist qualified for the ISSMA State Solo & Ensemble Contest

Mrs. Briel credits the students and the program’s culture for the success:

“Our students at Clark-Pleasant Middle School are some of the hardest working people I know. They make teaching fun and enjoyable each day.”

For more than two decades, Mrs. Briel has worked to create a welcoming environment where students feel connected, confident, and part of a musical family. We are incredibly proud to have her inspiring our students every day.

📚✨ Clark-Pleasant Staff Spotlight ✨📚

We’re so proud to celebrate Stacey Kern, librarian at Clark-Pleasant Middle School, who was recently featured in the Daily Journal for receiving a Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowship!

Stacey will embark on a powerful journey across the U.S. and Europe to explore historic libraries and sacred spaces — a pilgrimage she calls “Open Door: Bastions of Hope.” Her work centers on the belief that libraries are more than buildings; they are sanctuaries for inquiry, creativity, and healing.

Through this fellowship, Stacey will bring her learning and inspiration back to our students, families, and community — continuing her passion for advocating for libraries and the role they play in our lives.

📰 Read the full story from the Daily Journal (published January 26) to learn more about Stacey’s incredible journey and vision.

We’re grateful to have educators like Stacey Kern who continue to inspire, even beyond the classroom walls. 💙

Clark-Pleasant Community Schools – E-Learning Day
Tuesday, January 27, 2026

Due to inclement weather, all Clark-Pleasant school buildings will be CLOSED tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
However, students WILL participate in a SYNCHRONOUS (LIVE) e-Learning Day.

🔹 What this means for families:
Students do NOT report to school buildings
Students WILL log in from home to attend live online classes with their teachers

The State of Indiana allows schools to use three asynchronous e-learning days, where students complete work independently. Those days have already been used. As a result, we are now operating under Synchronous (Live) e-Learning, which requires students to log in and participate in real-time instruction.
Each school will be sending families specific schedule and login information so students know when and where to join their live sessions.
Thank you for your flexibility and partnership as we keep students learning while keeping everyone safe.

Clark-Pleasant Community Schools will be CLOSED today, Friday, December 12th, due to inclement weather. Today will be a SYNCHRONOUS (LIVE) eLearning Day
