Special Services

Welcome to the Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation's Department of Special Services. Clark-Pleasant provides special services for students with disabilities, ages 3 through 21.

Students are determined eligible for special education through a multidisciplinary evaluation, which is coordinated by a school psychologist and then reviewed at a case conference.

Working closely with families, teachers and administration, Clark-Pleasant is committed to educating students in their least restrictive environment. The majority of students with disabilities attend their neighborhood schools and are educated with their non-disabled peers, to the maximum extent possible.

Caregiver Resources

Indiana offers Medicaid waiver programs that target specific groups. Waiver services allow members to live in a community setting and avoid institutional placement. To be eligible for any waiver program, you must meet Medicaid guidelines and waiver eligibility guidelines.

Families can now apply for Caregiver Support Services online, by mail or in person.

The Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) has announced that Caregiver Support Services funds are available starting September 1, 2013. Caregiver Support Services is totally state funded and available on a first-come, first-served basis. An application must be completed each year, even if you have received services in the past.

To be eligible for Caregiver Support Services an individual must meet the state definition for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities level of care. Services are not available if the individual with a disability receives or begins to receive other services from BDDS or programs such as Vocational Rehabilitation Services, First Steps, CHOICE or Medicaid Waiver services.

Applications no longer have to be made in-person at the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS) district office. Families may apply online, by mail or in-person. Here is the link to apply online:

Deaf and Hard of Hearing

We currently provide students who are deaf or hard of hearing with tools/services to enhance their educational experience. Such services/tools may include the following:

sign language interpreters
listening and spoken language instruction
support in the classroom
self-advocacy instruction
academic intervention
consultation with our deaf and hard of hearing teacher
appropriate hearing assistive technology such as FM systems and sound field systems

Blind and Low Vision

Students who are blind or have low vision receive tools/services which may include the following:

braille instruction
instruction in using functional vision
self-advocacy instruction
consultation with a blind and low vision teacher
large print, braille, and digital materials as needed
access to slant boards, magnification devices, text to speech programs
other tools to enhance their best vision at school.
