Brooke Fuentes was not only recognized at the End of the Year Celebration on Friday, May 30th but she was also recognized at the Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, May 31st. Here is what was said about Ms. Fuentes during the ceremony:
"When we think about what makes an amazing teacher, a few words might come to mind: knowledgeable, inspiring, experienced, creative. But the truth is, there will never be enough words to fully capture what makes a truly amazing teacher. The kind of teacher we honor today embodies something more. This is a person who brings compassion into every conversation, who makes time to listen even on the busiest of days, and who turns a classroom into a space that feels like it belongs to everyone in it - a space that is safe, meaningful, and focused on learning.
Out of all the dedicated and compassionate educators at Whiteland, one teacher truly stands out this year.
What sets this teacher apart isn’t just her knowledge or experience, it’s how she truly cares for you as a person. In her class, you're not just a name on a roster or a grade in the system. You’re someone with dreams and a story that matters. Yes, she wants you to pass her class, but more than that, she wants you to have a support system and someone to talk to if you need it. She meets each student with patience and understanding, and helps them grow with confidence. Her impact on others is meaningful and lasting, reminding us that sometimes the best teaching comes from simply caring and believing in someone.
I had the honor of being in her AP Language and Composition class last year. From day one, it was clear that this was more than just a classroom - it was a space built on respect, understanding, and genuine connection. Everyday, she would write a question on the board and then take the time to check in with every student personally. No one was overlooked. It was clear she wanted to hear our voices, even if we felt unsure or quiet.
Those daily moments weren’t simply about answering questions. They were about building relationships, creating a safe space where students felt seen and valued. When life threw challenges our way, she responded not only with professionalism but with a calm kindness that made us feel supported and understood.
Her classroom became the setting for one of the hardest moments of my high school experience - a moment I don’t fully remember, but one I know was overwhelming. And while I may not remember the details, I know I was surrounded by a lot of care and support. That sense of safety stayed with me, and for that, I will always be grateful for her.
Beyond her classroom, she has been a steady and inspiring leader for over 20 years - serving as department chair, union leader, mentor, and so much more, always serving as an advocate for both students and teachers. Her commitment to this school and district is clear in everything she does, from supporting fellow staff members to cheering on students at events. She quietly leads with grace and strength, making a lasting impact that extends far beyond her own classroom walls.
Students describe her as calm, honest, encouraging, and deeply compassionate. She listens without judgment and speaks with intention. She helps every student feel respected and capable, always encouraging them to grow and believe in themselves.
She doesn’t seek praise or recognition, but today, we want to make sure she knows just how much she means to all of us.
On behalf of the Class of 2025, we are proud to recognize a teacher who has given so much of herself to our school and our lives - someone whose guidance and care we’ll carry with us long after we leave these hallways.
In addition, the Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation has honored Mrs. Fuentes with the very first district Teacher of the Year award. She will now be our nominee for the State of Indiana Teacher of the Year award."
