The Clark-Pleasant Community School Board of Trustees approved a resolution this past Monday evening to renew the current operating referendum. This proposed referendum funding would continue to support our Clark-Pleasant Police Department, Student Support Services and Programming. This proposal includes a maximum rate of $0.09 per $100 of assessed property value over an eight-year term. In comparison to the current 2018 operating referendum, that tax rate was $0.10 per $100 of assessed valuation; therefore, we are reducing the tax rate by 1 penny in order to demonstrate fiscal responsibility and respect for our community taxpayers, while still maintaining these incredibly important school safety and support services for our student population.
Our School Board President, Kimberly Crawford, made the statement, “All 5 board members voted unanimously to pass the resolution. We recognize that the services funded by the referendum are essential to ensuring a safe, supportive learning environment while delivering the high-quality education expected at Clark Pleasant Community School Corporation. We remain dedicated to fiscal responsibility, having reduced this rate - as well as the overall school property tax. Our students and families are always top of mind in everything we do.”
Over the past three years, CPCSC has demonstrated a consistent commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency, while maintaining high-quality educational opportunities for all of our students. A specific example of being fiscally conservative has been by reducing the overall school property tax rate by $0.22 during this same time period.
Here’s a comment by our CPCSC Superintendent, Dr. Timothy Edsell, “The purpose of this referendum renewal is to continue to provide high quality school safety measures through our very own Clark-Pleasant Police Department, which is the best school police force in the State of Indiana and to continue to build student support services, in the areas of behavioral health and nursing, that have an immediate, positive, and direct impact on students without any administrative overhead.”
Any community member, group, organization, business, etc. that may have additional questions or would like to learn more about this proposed referendum renewal for school safety and student support services, please contact CPCSC Superintendent, Dr. Timothy Edsell, via email at tedsell@cpcsc.k12.in.us
Additional information regarding the referendum, district finances, and community engagement opportunities will be shared throughout the summer and fall. Residents are encouraged to learn more by visiting the Clark-Pleasant Community Schools (https://www.cpcsc.k12.in.us/page/referendum).
