CPCSC STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Eric & Desirae Bockelman: Teaching, A Family Affair!
Eric and Desirae Bockelman have known each other since they were freshmen at Southport High School. They’ve been together for 19 years. Both have been teaching for 14 years, coincidentally the same number of years they've been married. For Eric and Desirae, teaching is truly a family affair. Their son Charlie, a 3rd grader at Break-O-Day Elementary where they teach, gets to ride to work early with mom and dad. Their older son Bennett attends CPMS.
Eric is a 5th-grade math teacher and Desirae is a 3rd-grade writing specialist. Their paths to the teaching profession were different. Desirae followed a more traditional route, studying education at IU. Something you may not know is that Mrs. Bockelman did about half of her student teaching in Ennis, Ireland, and the other half at Break-O-Day under Ms. Parry. Mr. Bockelman initially pursued a communications degree at IU and transitioned to teaching after getting hooked on it while working as a substitute. One thing you might not know about Eric is that after graduating college he and his brothers won a contest through the nonprofit, Roadtrip Nation. He spent 2 weeks traveling through New Zealand seeing the country and interviewing people with unique careers and pathways toward their careers. He says that experience was a huge part of he went back to school to get his teaching license.
The Bockelmans view teaching as more than just a job; they see it as a calling to be a resource for kids and to be problem solvers. They believe that the biggest challenge is meeting the specific needs of each student but find support in the close collaborative family environment among educators at Break-O-Day. Knowing that students can check in with other teachers and administrators at critical times provides reassurance for these educators. To see all the high fives and hugs they get as students enter their classrooms it’s obvious that they’re making a difference.
Congratulations to The Bockelmans for being our first CPCSC Staff Spotlight selection of the new school year.

E-Learning Information for 2024-2025
Dear Clark-Pleasant Families,
Below you will find, in three languages, information on our E-Learning process for this school year. If you have any questions please reach out to your student's building principal.
Clark-Pleasant Leaders Join Governor for Signing of House Bill 1104
Clark-Pleasant leaders recently stood alongside the Honorable Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb at the Statehouse for the signing of House Bill 1104. Dr. Edsell, Chief Chad Pryce, and Officer Shari Mullins were invited as guests of State Representative Michelle Davis. The bill sets guidelines for safety plans during armed intruder drills and allows School Police Departments to participate in the 1977 Police Pension Plan. Officer Mullins and Chief Pryce previously testified in support of the bill in the Senate and House. This new provision is expected to benefit school resource officers both personally and professionally, aiding in the recruitment and retention of experienced and qualified Police Officers.

We had our first bus evacuation drill today so we could practice how to safely get all students off the bus in the event of an emergency blocking the front entry. It was great to see our older students take on the leadership role and help our younger students safely exit the bus! Way to show the Warrior Way!

Dear Families and Community Members,
We are excited to invite you to a free Youth Mental Health First Aid training session, thanks to our Project AWARE Grant! This important program is designed to empower adults with the knowledge and skills needed to support young people who may be experiencing mental health challenges or crises.
During this training, you'll learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, provide initial support, and connect youth to professional care when necessary. Whether you're a parent, teacher, coach, or simply care about the well-being of our community's youth, this course is invaluable.
Space is limited, so please SAVE THE DATE and be on the lookout for the registration to open soon!
We look forward to your participation in this vital training as we work together to support the mental health of our youth.

National Night out Tonight from 6-8pm!

4th grade kids had their first room transformation of the year!! We pulled out some red table cloths, snacks, and some delicious books for them to try out a book from all sorts of different genres. The kids had the opportunity in Mrs. Ridgway’s room to try out “nonfiction nachos” and “fantasy fruit salad” before switching to Mrs Walters’s room for “historical fiction hamburgers” and “mystery mousse”.

Blasting off into the school year with students practicing the Warrior Way!

It was a great first day at Break-O-Day! We are excited for a great school year!
