They Put Smiles on Students' Faces! It’s SCHOOL LUNCH HERO DAY, a time to celebrate our Clark-Pleasant Food Services workers who put smiles on student faces Monday through Friday. You might have noticed some extra balloons and “hero” t-shirts in some of our lunchrooms today. We would like to thank our food service staff for their dedication to feeding our students a healthy lunch each school day. "We have about 70 employees who are hard-working and who really care about the students", says Food Services Director, Kim Combs. "We want meals to be healthy and delicious and eaten in an enjoyable atmosphere each and every day". School Lunch Hero Day is held annually on the first Friday in May in honor of each person responsible for providing lunches (and food) to millions of school children across America.

May the 4th Be With You! From a Social Studies Galaxy far, far away at CPMS Mr. Beck could be overheard telling his students; "You know, sometimes I amaze even myself." Mr. Phipps had this quick remark; don’t everybody thank me at once." Mr. Parkhurst, on the other hand, had some great advice for his students; “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” Mr. Akers reassured his students; "I won’t fail you. I’m not afraid” and Mrs. Lyons summed up the day with this comment; “I’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee.”

Scavenger Hunt!!! Upstream is conducting (our first!) scavenger hunt from May 6 - 13th. This will be app-based using the Goosechase app, and the theme for May will be centered around the Eight Dimensions of Wellness. We are calling this The CHASE! This is a free, self-paced scavenger hunt that is open to anyone interested in playing. Scan the QR code for more information. Prizes are available.

CPMS All-Music Winners! CPMS received the JME All- Music Award this year as one of 3 middle schools in the entire state to receive the "Total Department" award. The bands have received the "All Music" award at CPMS every year that it has existed but this is the first time that the choir department also received this award. Both Band & Choir received gold ratings at ISSMA Jazz Contest, ISSMA Concert Band/Choir Contest, & had gold ratings at Solo & Ensemble. We are very proud to earn this prestigious award together this year!

It's Official!!! Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation’s Music Education Program Receives National Recognition CPCSC Receives Title Fourth Year in a Row! Johnson County, Indiana – April 20, 2023 – Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 24th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, CPCSC answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas. “This is the 4th year in a row that we have received this honor. Only 15 school districts in Indiana received the award this year for making sure music is a core and valued part of a student's educational process", said WCHS Music Chair, Pete Sampson. Since the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in 2015 and a stated emphasis on a well-rounded education, many school districts have re-committed to music and arts education programs. During the pandemic, music and arts programs were a vital component to keeping students engaged in school. ESSA provides designated funding for well-rounded educational opportunities through Title IV Part A Student Academic Success and Achievement grants. NAMM Foundation research has revealed that these grants are being widely used by school districts to address instructional gaps in access to music and arts education. Research into music education continues to demonstrate educational/cognitive and social skill benefits for children who make music: After two years of music education, researchers found that participants showed more substantial improvements in how the brain processes speech and reading scores than their less-involved peers and that students who are involved in music are not only more likely to graduate high school but also to attend college as well. In addition, everyday listening skills are stronger in musically trained children than in those without music training. Significantly, listening skills are closely tied to the ability to: perceive speech in a noisy background, pay attention, and keep sounds in memory. Later in life, individuals who took music lessons as children show stronger neural processing of sound: young adults and even older adults who have not played an instrument for up to 50 years show enhanced neural processing compared to their peers. Not to mention, social benefits include conflict resolution, teamwork skills, and how to give and receive constructive criticism. Superintendent Search Meeting! The Indiana School Board Association is assisting with the search for a new Clark-Pleasant Superintendent and will be at this meeting to facilitate the input session. Staff, parents, and community members are welcome to attend.

Whiteland Youth Soccer Camp!

Striking a Chord with Young Musicians! Hundreds of 5th graders from Clark-Pleasant elementary schools took a trip to the middle school Thursday. They were there to explore the music options available to them, in band and choir, as they enter CPMS in the fall. In 2022 Clark-Pleasant Schools were named a "Best Community for Music Education" for the third year in a row. Only 11 districts in Indiana were given this honor. A HUGE thank you to our music teachers for their work and dedication in the classroom with our students.

Youth Volleyball Night!

Need WiFi? WiFi centers have been set up for students at Clark-Pleasant Middle School and Whiteland Community High Schools ELearning days today and tomorrow for those who may not currently have WiFi available, due to the tornado. Internet access is also available at Grace Assembly Church on US 31, and at the Greenwood and Franklin libraries.

Clark-Pleasant Schools Closed Monday! April 2, 2023 Due to a confirmed tornado that caused considerable damage in the Whiteland area Friday evening there will be no classes on Monday. Some of our buildings still have power issues, utility poles are down and some roads are blocked due to storm cleanup which creates significant traffic problems, especially with our buses. All of these issues impact our ability to have school. We will reassess our situation Monday and will provide an update at that time. Shelter Available If you are without power in the Whiteland or Johnson County area, due to the storm, The Red Cross has set up a shelter for impacted residents at Greenwood Middle School. It's located at 1584 Averitt Rd, Greenwood, IN 46143. Please enter through door #8 All Clark-Pleasant Schools facilities are in good shape however some are currently without power.

A special shout-out to Braden Murray, Outreach Director at Grace Assembly of God, and his entire team who showed up with smiles and sweet treats for the students this morning. Good Morning CPMS Families, We want to make you aware of a new TikTok trend that encourages students to a “Bathroom Challenge” or a “Devious Lick.” Students in these videos show items that they have stolen from public restrooms and often their schools. Unfortunately, CPMS has experienced an increase in vandalism and theft in our restrooms so we are taking additional measures to address this inappropriate behavior. In addition, we are asking for your help to ensure that all CPMS students follow the Warrior Way by being Safe, Responsible, and Respectful. We encourage all students and parents that if you see or know something, say something. Please contact CPMS administration to report an incident, if you have any questions, or need additional information. Thank you!
