What a FUN way to spend our last day before Fall Break!
Our Fun Run was a huge success! The weather started out a little rainy, but that didn’t stop us! We were able to get outside, run across the finish line, enjoy fun game stations on the soccer field, and celebrate all the hard work our students put into the FUN RUN!
A BIG thank-you to our students, staff, volunteers, and BES PTO for making today such a fun and memorable day!

Our kindergarten students had a special visitor today! Clark Pleasant Superintendent Dr. Edsell stopped by to read to our kindergarten students.

Last week BES 2nd graders had an amazing day exploring, learning, and having fun at The WonderLab! 🔬 We loved watching their curiosity come to life through all of the hands-on activities and exhibits. What a great day of learning outside the classroom!

Last night’s Family Fun Night was one for the books! We had our BIGGEST CROWD YET, and we couldn’t be more excited about the amazing turnout!
Thank you to all of our BES families who came out, had fun, and helped make the evening so special. We loved seeing our Warriors laughing, playing, and spending time together!

Celebrating Constitution Day at Break-O-Day Elementary School!
Break-O-Day Elementary School had a very special visitor this morning! In honor of Constitution Day, Johnson County Judge Andrew Roesener visited our first-grade classrooms and brought an important civics lesson to life for some of our youngest Warriors.
Judge Roesener started at the beginning, asking students if they knew what country they lived in before taking them through the story of how America came to be.
He shared that the American colonies were once under the rule of Great Britain and its king, introducing students to their vocabulary word of the day — monarchy. 👑 He explained that Americans decided they did not want to be ruled by a king and eventually became an independent country with a new system of government.
From there, he introduced students to the three branches of government and talked about the president, Congress and judges — helping them see where his job as a judge fits into the way our government is structured. ⚖️
Then he showed them a little more about what being a judge actually looks like! Judge Roesener led the first graders through a mock trial involving a very serious case: the missing brownie! 🍫And he came prepared — bringing his real judicial robe and gavel for our student judge to use during the trial! Students took on courtroom roles, participated in the case and got to experience the judicial process in a fun, age-appropriate way.
And, of course, no visit to a first-grade classroom would be complete without time for questions! Our students made sure to ask the hard-hitting ones — How old are you? What’s your favorite song? And, perhaps most importantly, do you know about 6/7? 😂 Judge Roesener happily answered the questions that really matter when you’re a first grader!
It was such a special morning that we were also excited to welcome the Daily Journal and The Franklin College newspaper to Break-O-Day to help capture and share the experience with our community.
We love opportunities like this to bring civic learning into our classrooms and make it meaningful for our students. Experiences like today give even our youngest learners a foundation for understanding how our country came to be, why our government is structured the way it is and how they are a part of it.

This week for ELT, the 4th grade did a unit on weathering and erosion. Today we did an experiment to see the processes play out. The students had such a good time!
Our BES 4th grade students became book critics during a fun Book Tasting! Students sampled a variety of book genres, explored new authors, and discovered stories they can't wait to read. From mystery and fantasy to historical fiction and adventure, there was something for every reader!
