Thank you for your support!

Elana Van Deman was recognized by our superintendent, Dr. Edsell, at the school board meeting last night. Elana was the only first place winner from Indiana, and 1 out of 125 winners nationwide, as she wrote about what it means to her to be an American. She won a trip for her and a parent to go to the Smithsonian and also visit other areas in Washington DC. The CES staff is so proud of her!

Please remember if you are picking up your child in the PM that you need to park and come to Door 13 to check out and pick up your child. Please do not park in a single file line like we do in the morning. For the PM car riders you need to park your car in one of the parking spots.
Thank you,

Good afternoon,
For those of you who have kindergarten aged students riding the bus home in the afternoon...there must be someone home in order for the bus driver to be able to drop off your kindergartner. This is something the drivers should have already communicated to our families...sending this to make sure everyone received this message.
Thank you,
Dr. Sloan

Good morning,
We are off to a great start here at CES this morning! Thank you all for your help and patience at arrival. After the first few days this will level off and the process will take less time. Car rider parents...please help us keep the line moving by not getting out of your vehicle. We also need to make sure that the driveway coming in remains passable for our buses, so we appreciate you not blocking that area as buses will need to be able to pass by each morning as they enter CES.
For the first several day as the buses leave CES, I will send out a Parent Square message letting you know when they have left. It is not uncommon for the buses to be running late in the afternoon the first several days of school.
Thank you,

Resending from last week. *In addition, we will have the Transportation Department here in our cafeteria that evening along with cafeteria staff to answer any of your questions. CES staff will also be there to help get you signed up in your child is going to be a car rider. The scouts will be here at a table along with the Johnson County Library. Our office will be staffed that evening if you have any questions.
Kona Ice will be here outside Door 1 if you wish to purchase a treat. We ask that you please do not bring the Kona Ice into the building as it will stain our carpets and desks, and our wonderful custodial staff spent all summer cleaning CES in preparation for the first day with students.

We are so proud of Evee Collins and the work she has done in training Marshmallow over the past year. Her hard work paid off at the Johnson County Fairgrounds this past weekend as Marshmallow earned 1st place in the obedience and agility categories and 3rd place in the showmanship category.
Congratulations!
Congratulations!

We are so proud of our CES student Elana Van Deman! She has been named the only first-place winner from Indiana in America's Field Trip, a nationwide contest tied to the 250th anniversary of the United States. Out of a record number of entries from across the country, Elana was one of just 125 students selected as a first-place winner for her essay on the prompt "What does America mean to you?"
As her prize, she and a parent will travel to Washington, D.C. this summer for an exclusive early visit to the brand-new National Geographic Museum of Exploration and a private overnight "Smithsonian Sleepover" at the National Museum of American History on the National Mall.
Here is her essay...
What Does America Mean to You?
In America, people support different skin colors and cultures. We can depend on one another
and help achieve big things. In my classroom at school, there are kids from places like India,
Nigeria, Pakistan and Mexico. We support each other's opinions and work together. My friends
and I talk freely about family, future plans, religious traditions, how we look and the languages
we speak. We are all treated fairly whether we are a girl, boy, or from a different culture. In the
future, I believe that everyone can work together to make America the best country it can be.

Good morning,
We are fast approaching our June 20 car show fundraiser here at CES from 9:00am-2:00pm. The car show, and all the money we raise, will go towards purchasing a horizontal rock climbing wall for our students. Please see the attached flier that explains our fun filled day on Saturday, June 20, from 9am-2pm. The QR Code makes it very easy to register your vehicle. There is also a "donate" button for those who simply wish to donate towards our 10ft x 40ft horizontal rock climbing wall that will be installed on our north gym wall and benefit all of our PreK - 5th grade students. We will also accept donations at a table the day of the event where the QR code will be available to scan along with any cash donations or checks made out to Clark Elementary. Cars can also be entered the day of the event at our registration table.
This is a family fun event, and even if you are not entering a car into the car show, we encourage you to come out and enjoy the playground and Gaga Ball Pits along with supporting many of our local food vendors who will be here on that day along with other local businesses. Please see the attached flier of the vendors we will have here that day...lots of good food to go along with the fun! Door 2 will be open for the use of restrooms, but that is the only part of the building that will be open that day as this is an outside event. Also, please have an adult with your child/children as this is not a drop off event.
Those families coming to just enjoy the car show, food and playground, we ask that you park across the street at the church as they have graciously allowed us to use their parking lot on this day. You can also park in the far back west parking lot by the baseball diamonds and the spaces on the south side of the building closets to the county road. We will have one of our police officers here assisting, but please take extra caution when crossing the county road from the church, and please do not have any children do this without an adult. The main parking lots by the school, and the hard surface playground area, will be for the cars being entered into the car show. Our vendors will be set up in the middle lane that our car riding students use each morning to enter the building.
Please stop by the registration table to consider making a donation and also to pick up one voting ticket per person to write down the number of your favorite car or motorcycle as we determine the five "Best of Show" winners. There will also be two silent auction items available to the highest bidder located at the donation table as well.
The flier is attached and here is the Facebook Event link: https://www.facebook.com/share/1CHReSSbxV/
I would appreciate having some volunteers help me on this day, even if it is for an hour...if you can assist in any of the following areas...event set up, registration table, donation/silent auction table, parking, floating helpers/other...please email me at bsloan@cpcsc.k12.in.us
Thank you for your help and support...excited to see all of you there and bring your family and friends!
Sincerely,
Dr. Sloan, Principal
