We had a few false alarms here this morning with our fire alarm system. One prior to students arriving and one shortly after. The fire department, and our police department, responded both times and we evacuated CES both times as well. Staff and students did not re-enter the building until we had the all clear from the Fire Department Chief.
We have CPCSC maintenance here now working on the issue and the company who manufactures/monitors the system will be here later today as well.
I always want to be transparent with the information so you are aware of the facts as it would be a natural thing for your child to come home and share this afternoon.
Our emergency evacuation plans worked as designed and everyone remained safe.

Keeping the Story of 9/11 Relevant for a New Generation
Last Friday marked 25 years since September 11, 2001.
For many of us, 9/11 is something we remember — where we were, what we were doing and how we felt as the events of that day unfolded. But for every student in our schools today, September 11 is history. In fact, enough time has passed that even some of our educators were not yet born when it happened.
So how do we help a new generation understand not only what happened that day, but also the courage, sacrifice and humanity that emerged from it?
At Clark Elementary School, fifth-grade teacher Kelly Roy has found a meaningful way to do just that by sharing the story of Welles Crowther, “The Man in the Red Bandana.” Through his story, students learn about an ordinary person who made an extraordinary choice to help others during one of our nation’s darkest days.
As the years continue to pass, stories like this help ensure that September 11 remains more than a date in a history book. They give our students a personal connection to the past and an opportunity to talk about courage, service, compassion and what it means to help others.

Choices, choices, choices! The Warrior Way store officially opened today for the students to begin spending their accumulated points each earned with Warrior Way Tickets for making good choices and following the Warrior Way of Being Safe, Being Responsible and Being Respectful.
🏀 A Piece of Clark-Pleasant History Gets the Spotlight! 🧡💙
Sometimes it takes someone from outside our community to remind us just how special the places we see every day really are.
This summer, teacher and Indiana gym enthusiast Brett Yoder visited Clark Elementary as part of his Hoosier Gym Journey, a project documenting historic gyms across Indiana.
He came to see the old Clark Township gym, built in 1934 — but he left impressed by so much more.
In his article, Brett describes Clark Elementary as one of the most beautiful elementary schools he has seen in the state, writing about its towering ceilings, historic brickwork, natural light and the incredible way the building blends more than a century of history with a modern elementary school.
And then, of course, there’s the gym. 🏀
Once home to the Clark Township Lions, the gym still holds reminders of the generations who came before — from its wooden bleachers and original scorer's table to the historic memorabilia displayed nearby. The Lions even captured a sectional championship in 1953!
Perhaps our favorite part of the article, though, is Brett's reflection on what it means that students are still learning inside this historic building today. A child can walk through the same doors to receive an education that their great-great-grandparents may have walked through more than 100 years ago.
That really is something special. ❤️

Elana Van Deman was recognized by our superintendent, Dr. Edsell, at the school board meeting last night. Elana was the only first place winner from Indiana, and 1 out of 125 winners nationwide, as she wrote about what it means to her to be an American. She won a trip for her and a parent to go to the Smithsonian and also visit other areas in Washington DC. The CES staff is so proud of her!

The PTO Cookie Dough Fundraiser kicked off this past Friday, and all CES students came home with a fundraiser packet and information. This is one of the main fundraisers the PTO does during the school year. All funds go back to support our students and teachers. The fundraiser runs until Tuesday, August 25, and we appreciate your support!

For those of you who have kindergarten aged students riding the bus home in the afternoon...there must be someone home in order for the bus driver to be able to drop off your kindergartner. This is something the drivers should have already communicated to our families...sending this to make sure everyone received this message.

We are off to a great start here at CES this morning! Thank you all for your help and patience at arrival. After the first few days this will level off and the process will take less time. Car rider parents...please help us keep the line moving by not getting out of your vehicle. We also need to make sure that the driveway coming in remains passable for our buses, so we appreciate you not blocking that area as buses will need to be able to pass by each morning as they enter CES.
For the first several day as the buses leave CES, I will send out a Parent Square message letting you know when they have left. It is not uncommon for the buses to be running late in the afternoon the first several days of school.

Resending from last week. *In addition, we will have the Transportation Department here in our cafeteria that evening along with cafeteria staff to answer any of your questions. CES staff will also be there to help get you signed up in your child is going to be a car rider. The scouts will be here at a table along with the Johnson County Library. Our office will be staffed that evening if you have any questions.
