HUGE NEWS for Whiteland FFA!

We are excited to announce that the Whiteland FFA Chapter has once again been named an Indiana FFA “Big 10 Chapter” for the 2025-2026 school year!

This recognition places Whiteland FFA among the Top 10 out of 240 FFA chapters across the state of Indiana. Chapters are evaluated based on their achievements in:
🌱 Community Service
🎓 Leadership
🚜 Strengthening Agriculture

Because of this incredible accomplishment, Whiteland FFA will now move on to national rankings!

But that’s not all…

Whiteland FFA is also a Top 4 Finalist in THREE Model of Excellence Program areas, recognizing outstanding service projects, leadership development events, and agricultural awareness activities. In just a few weeks, members of our officer team will present at the Indiana State FFA Convention as they compete for the State Model of Excellence title!

We are so proud of our students, advisors, and everyone who supports our FFA program. Thank you to our staff, families, and community members for encouraging our members and supporting them throughout the year — especially when they are representing Whiteland at FFA events and competitions. Your flexibility and support truly make a difference.

Congratulations, Whiteland FFA! 👏 #WhitelandFFA #IndianaFFA #FutureFarmersOfAmerica #WarriorPride

Thankful Thursday

“Teamwork makes the dream work!” That was certainly true this last week in the Whiteland Community High School Nutrition Pathway classrooms!

Our students shared their appreciation for teachers while also meeting important career and classroom standards. Students created a special Teacher Appreciation Lunch experience by offering teachers a menu to choose from and then planning, preparing, and delivering the meals themselves.

Teachers selected an entrée, two housemade side dishes, freshly made dressing, and an irresistible dessert!

Through this project, students demonstrated real-world career skills including time management, communication, leadership, teamwork, and work ethic. They also met standards for planning and preparing nutritionally sound meals, including accommodations for specialty diets, allergies, and calorie and macro goals.

We love seeing our students use their talents and skills to serve others while preparing for future careers. Great job to our Nutrition Pathway students and staff for making this such a meaningful experience!

🏆 WCHS Spanish Honor Society Earns NATIONAL Recognition!

We are incredibly proud to announce that the Spanish Honor Society – El Guaraní Chapter at WCHS has earned 2nd Place nationally in the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica National Activity of the Year Competition in the Short-Term Activity Category!

This prestigious recognition was awarded for the chapter’s outstanding Hispanic Heritage Month Community Day Celebration hosted in partnership with the Johnson County Public Library Clark Pleasant Branch.

As part of this incredible achievement, our chapter will be recognized this July at the National American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese Conference in Orlando, where students will receive a national plaque and monetary award.

This accomplishment would not have been possible without the dedication, leadership, and hard work of our SHS Leadership students. From organizing an impactful community event to completing the national submission process, these students continue to represent WCHS with excellence both inside and outside the classroom.

Please join us in congratulating our Spanish Honor Society students and sponsors on this outstanding national recognition!

⚾️ Honoring a Legacy. Celebrating a Tradition.

Today at Whiteland Community High School, between our Varsity Doubleheader against Seymour High School, we had the incredible opportunity to recognize the teams that started it all.

We proudly honored the 1967, 1968, 1969, and 1970 Warriors—the first four sectional champions in Indiana High School Athletic Association baseball history. These teams didn’t just win games…they built the foundation of a winning tradition that still defines Whiteland baseball today.

💙 And what a testament to that legacy—players traveled from near and far to be part of this special day:
• Rex Fleming made the trip from Florida
• Jody Corbin even cut his Florida vacation short to be here
• Mike Nachand returned from his son’s wedding
• Tim Bayless traveled from Bloomington
• Gary Hudson joined us from West Lafayette

That kind of commitment speaks volumes.

This celebration also marked another “first” as we welcomed these champions to our newly turfed baseball field, honoring the past while stepping into the future of Warrior baseball.

📸 The historic photo featured in this post comes from the Daily Journal and captures a special moment in time—pitcher Jody Corbin and catcher Butch Zike holding the trophy presented to the 1968 Whiteland baseball team after winning the Johnson County Tournament.

⚾️ The history behind these teams is just as impressive:
• In 1967, the Warriors captured the first-ever IHSAA sectional title, powered by an explosive eight-run fourth inning and a four-hit shutout from Rex Fleming
• In 1968, Whiteland repeated as champions behind Tim Bayless’ dominant three-hit shutout, striking out eight and allowing no walks
• In 1969, the Warriors made it three straight, with Rusty Fleming allowing just two early hits before shutting the door the rest of the game
• By 1970, Whiteland had secured four consecutive sectional championships—an unmatched start to a program’s legacy

From those first four sectional titles to becoming the first Johnson County school to reach the IHSAA Final Four in 1985, the tradition is strong—and it all started with these teams and their legendary coach, Larry Bledsoe, who was undefeated in sectional play.

📸 A special moment came as these alumni took the field once again—this time alongside our current WCHS baseball team—a powerful reminder that generations of Warriors are forever connected.

Today wasn’t just about baseball.
It was about legacy, pride, and the enduring spirit of being a Warrior.

👏 Thank you to these players, coaches, and families for building something that continues to inspire.

🍽️ Real-World Learning in Action 🍽️

Mrs. Norcross’s Nutrition Planning and Therapy class went on a field trip to experience elevated cuisine that still meets nutritional requirements at Seasons 52.

Students had the opportunity to try food they may not have experienced before and to taste thoughtful, well-composed meals produced in an efficient, professional kitchen. The class was delighted with both their meals and the service—and were surprised to learn that each dish came in at under 595 calories, with careful attention to nutrient balance and a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Beyond the meal, some students also took the opportunity to network with restaurant staff, sharing their own experiences and asking thoughtful questions about the culinary field.

Experiences like this bring classroom learning to life in the most delicious way!

🌟 BIG NEWS from our FFA Program! 🌟

On Thursday evening, three of our outstanding FFA members took the next step in their leadership journey by interviewing for the 2026–2027 District XIII FFA Officer Team. These positions are highly competitive, with only top members from each chapter selected to represent their schools. District officers serve as leaders and ambassadors, facilitating programs and representing their district at FFA events across Indiana throughout the year.

We are incredibly proud to share:
👏 Jack Kelsay has been slated as District XIII President
👏 Madeline Armstrong has been slated as District XIII Secretary

Even more impressive—Whiteland was the only school in our district (Johnson, Marion, and Shelby Counties) to have two members slated for the officer team!

As District XIII President, Jack will also serve on the Indiana FFA Executive Committee, representing our district at the state level.

This is a huge accomplishment and a reflection of the leadership, dedication, and hard work these students bring to our FFA program every day.

🎉 If you see Jack or Madeline, be sure to congratulate them!
