Appeals On Wheels! The Indiana Court of Appeals held oral arguments for the case of Jordan v. State at the WCHS Auditorium on Wednesday. A three-judge panel presided over the case in front of approximately 170 Whiteland and Brown County seniors. State Representative Michelle Davis, along with Dr. Edsell, Dr. Shipp, and local judges, also attended the event. Social Studies Teacher Kaitlin Holton organized the session to provide students with a firsthand understanding of the judicial process. The Honorable Leanna Weissmann, Peter Foley, and Paul Felix presided over the case. The Appeals Court, which is the second highest court in Indiana, reviews appeals from the state's trial courts and certain state agencies. However, it does not preside over trials and cannot review death penalty and life without parole cases, as these are appealed directly to the Indiana Supreme Court. Students had lots of questions for the judges during a Q and A session which followed.

Clark-Pleasant Leaders Join Governor for Signing of House Bill 1104 Clark-Pleasant leaders recently stood alongside the Honorable Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb at the Statehouse for the signing of House Bill 1104. Dr. Edsell, Chief Chad Pryce, and Officer Shari Mullins were invited as guests of State Representative Michelle Davis. The bill sets guidelines for safety plans during armed intruder drills and allows School Police Departments to participate in the 1977 Police Pension Plan. Officer Mullins and Chief Pryce previously testified in support of the bill in the Senate and House. This new provision is expected to benefit school resource officers both personally and professionally, aiding in the recruitment and retention of experienced and qualified Police Officers.

Innovative-Groundbreaking Program Announced for WCHS!!! A partnership is announced between Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation and The Howard Companies construction firm. “After 18 months of hard work and collaboration a ceremony was held at Whiteland Community High School this week where we were presented a check for 25,000 dollars to launch a civil construction pathway program”, says WCHS Principal, Duke Lines. The new civil construction pathway program will begin to equip Whiteland Community High School students with the skills and credentials necessary to be employable and ready to join the workforce or continue their certifications upon graduation. The $25,000 contribution from Howard Companies goes straight into the program to help sponsor and pay for all necessary items for the students to be successful. “We realize that students should have the opportunity to start a career path and earn college credit while in high school. This partnership allows students to earn college credit and certification while in high school to start a career immediately after graduation," stated Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Cassandra Shipp. Dr. Shipp says students will begin hands-on experiences working in the construction trades while still in high school, paving the way for a bright and well-paying future immediately out of high school. “The school corporation commends Howard Companies for this visionary approach to preparing students for successful careers and we look forward to our ongoing relationship”, stated CPCSC Superintendent Dr. Tim Edsell. Several students with interest in the program attended the check presentation ceremony.
