Clark-Pleasant Schools Plan for Solar Eclipse
Dear Clark-Pleasant Families,
We would like to make you aware that a total solar eclipse will take place April 8, 2024. This eclipse will reach across 16 states but will be most prominent in Central Indiana, especially in Johnson County. Therefore like many nearby school districts, we are making plans for a "live," synchronous E-Learning Day on 04/08/2024. We are making this decision out of an abundance of caution as the eclipse will take place in Indiana for over several hours. Additionally, we are being told by local emergency management officials that there will be a significant influx of visitors coming to Johnson County during this time period creating major concerns with transportation and congestion. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to your respective school building administrators.
Sincerely,
Dr. Timothy Edsell
Superintendent
Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation

Growing student leaders - Today a few students asked if they could welcome others with one of the big high five hands! It was awesome to see kids greeting and encouraging others to have a great day!

It was an INCREDIBLE day at WES! Tons of WOW Warriors, Good News Visits, guests in the Parent Center for lunch, recess wagons with all new options for play, and grade level Warrior Way kickoffs! Well done, Warriors!

Reinforcing The Warrior Way!
WES students participated in a friendly competition to promote the warrior way Friday. Principal Guilfoy says as we settle into the 2nd semester, it's a great time to review of the Warrior Way! Each grade level celebrated ways to be successful!

2-Hour Delay!

Our first graders had their first publishing party! It was exciting to celebrate them as published authors! Thank you to Mrs. Buller for all of her efforts in making this possible for our students!

Our art teacher, Mrs. Villarreal, has clay projects going with several grade levels. You could feel the excitement in the room from these students to be able to make a pinch pot monster!

CPCSC STAFF SPOTLIGHT #1
Jennifer Lulfs
4th Grade Teacher at WES
Jennifer Lulfs has been teaching since the turn of the century, 2000, to be exact. After graduating from Ball State University, with two degrees, one in elementary education another in special education K-12, her first teaching position was in Terre Haute. She’s taught not only elementary students but middle and high school as well.
Today she is a fourth-grade teacher at Whiteland Elementary where she’s been for the past 13-years. She interacts with about 60 students per day. Her greatest accomplishment; “It’s when kids come back many years later and say I love reading today because of the things we read in your class many years ago”, says Mrs. Lulfs. She says she really enjoys seeing kids understand that when they can read everything is possible.
Something you may not know about her is that she spent two years living in Europe in the city of Llantwit Major Wales while her husband was working there. Her two oldest children are attending Purdue and her youngest attends Fortune Academy in Lawrence.
While she loves teaching and has dedicated her life to it she says there are major challenges in teaching kids today. “The biggest challenge is kids are tech savvy which can be a good thing”, she says. “The bad part about that is that they are used to being highly entertained at the touch of a button. School takes longer than 30 seconds to learn something; it takes grit and determination to inspire students to become lifelong learners”.
She encourages new teachers to quickly gain an understanding that kids come from very diverse backgrounds and are at very different levels of comprehension. Part of that she says is that students come from all over the world. Still she says pushing them, stretching them and challenging them has to take place daily. She says if there are not expectations there may not be the outcomes that are desired. When asked what she likes about WES she says it’s a small enough school that it feels like a family.
Jennifer Lulfs is our CPCSC Staff Spotlight!

Clark-Pleasant Schools will be on a 2-hour delay, Wednesday January 17, 2024
