Our art teacher, Mrs. Villarreal, has clay projects going with several grade levels. You could feel the excitement in the room from these students to be able to make a pinch pot monster!

CPCSC STAFF SPOTLIGHT #1 Jennifer Lulfs 4th Grade Teacher at WES Jennifer Lulfs has been teaching since the turn of the century, 2000, to be exact. After graduating from Ball State University, with two degrees, one in elementary education another in special education K-12, her first teaching position was in Terre Haute. She’s taught not only elementary students but middle and high school as well. Today she is a fourth-grade teacher at Whiteland Elementary where she’s been for the past 13-years. She interacts with about 60 students per day. Her greatest accomplishment; “It’s when kids come back many years later and say I love reading today because of the things we read in your class many years ago”, says Mrs. Lulfs. She says she really enjoys seeing kids understand that when they can read everything is possible. Something you may not know about her is that she spent two years living in Europe in the city of Llantwit Major Wales while her husband was working there. Her two oldest children are attending Purdue and her youngest attends Fortune Academy in Lawrence. While she loves teaching and has dedicated her life to it she says there are major challenges in teaching kids today. “The biggest challenge is kids are tech savvy which can be a good thing”, she says. “The bad part about that is that they are used to being highly entertained at the touch of a button. School takes longer than 30 seconds to learn something; it takes grit and determination to inspire students to become lifelong learners”. She encourages new teachers to quickly gain an understanding that kids come from very diverse backgrounds and are at very different levels of comprehension. Part of that she says is that students come from all over the world. Still she says pushing them, stretching them and challenging them has to take place daily. She says if there are not expectations there may not be the outcomes that are desired. When asked what she likes about WES she says it’s a small enough school that it feels like a family. Here are some simple ways CPCSC Warriors can honor MLK Jr. Day; ● Read a children's book about Dr. King and how he worked for everyone to be treated equally. ● Listen to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's 39 speeches to understand his important messages. ● Help create a community garden where everyone can enjoy nature. ● Leave little notes of kindness around your neighborhood. ● Make music or sing for people in nursing homes to bring them joy. ● Invite someone new or alone to sit with you and make friends. ● Volunteer to help others on MLK Day.

Awards Day! Celebrating Success at WES! Each grade level had their first grade level celebrations with Mrs. Guilfoy based on attendance, behavior, growth, and academic achievement. These are fourth graders who excelled in reading, writing and math. Congratulations Warriors!!!

It's Official Mrs. Bethany Guilfoy has become Principal of Whiteland Elementary. The board approved the recommendation by Superintendent, Dr. Timothy Edsell, at Tuesday nights board meeting. Mrs. Guilfoy had been serving as interim principal at WES. Congratulations Mrs. Guilfoy.

We are very excited to once again offer our Youth Dance Guard Clinic to all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade CPCSC students on Saturday December 9th starting at 1:30 PM. That same evening the students will then perform with the WCHS Dance Team at the WCHS Varsity Basketball game. The day will conclude after the performance around 7:00 PM. Many more details about the day will be given out upon arrival. Absolutely no dance experience is required!! We will be meeting at the WCHS North Building with the clinic starting at 1:30 PM. Please enter through Door 4 and follow the signs. The cost of the clinic is just $30 and includes a t-shirt, snack, pizza dinner, and free student entry for the basketball game that night. While we will take registrations at the door, we ask that you please register online at http://clinic.whitelandband.com to make sure we have a shirt in your student's exact size. Payment can be made at the door with cash, credit card, or a check to the "Whiteland Band Boosters".
