Clark-Pleasant Education Foundation is pleased to announce that Whiteland Community High School is the recipient of a $2,500 grant from Centerpoint Energy Foundation for Ready to Work. The Ready to Work program aims to create opportunities and empower individuals through collaboration with local high schools, community organizations, and employers. Designed around two main focuses—soft skills (essential skills training) and industry-focused training—the program addresses the skills gap for students by providing essential workplace skills needed to thrive in any company. PCES Awarded Writing Grant! Mrs. Jaida Fishback, a fourth-grade writing teacher at Pleasant Crossing Elementary School, has received a grant that will benefit all students at PCES. The Clark-Pleasant Education Foundation recently applied for and was selected to receive this grant through DonorsChoose.org as part of a Classroom Resource Grants educational initiative. These grants are funded by the Big Ten Conference, the College Football Playoff Foundation, and Indiana Sports Corp. The additional resources will enhance and support educational opportunities within our writing classrooms. “I am pleased that our school has received this award and thrilled that your child will benefit from this project,” said Mrs. Fishback. Every writing teacher will work with their students to create a book that allows students to express their ideas creatively. This project will culminate in a family picnic at the end of the year. Mrs. Fishback has stated that her goal has been to make this activity bigger and better each year, and so far, that is happening.

Librarians are learners, too! Nov. 17-19 Mrs. Kern (CPMS) and Ms. Smith (WCHS) attended the Indiana Library Federation Annual Conference in Indianapolis. Both CPCSC librarians attended many sessions, volunteered with multiple committees, engaged with peers, visited library vendors, and enjoyed a lively learning environment. They heard keynote addresses from author J.R. Jamison and library advocate Mychal Threets plus featured speaker and ed tech trainer Matt Miller. Mrs. Kern assisted in planning the awards luncheon which honored the work of fellow librarians, and Ms. Smith moderated an author panel. In addition, they spent time with WCHS Alum Annaliese Hoffmeyer (18). The Association of Indiana School Library Educators also met during the conference where members chose Ms. Smith as Chair Elect of AISLE which also makes her the Indiana Second representative to the American Association of School Librarians. CPCSC is proud of Mrs. Kern and Ms. Smith for their hard work and dedication to libraries and learners.

About 45 WCHS students who are part of the Medical Assistance program participated in a hands-on workshop on Tuesday with KLR Medical Certification Training. KLR Online prepares students for potential careers in pharmaceutical, veterinary medicine, dentistry, and medical assisting. Students typically meet with instructors virtually and, once they meet certain requirements, they can participate in rotations within their chosen area of interest. Katie Reigelsperger, CEO and founder of KLR, emphasizes that the online program is helping high school students prepare early for well-paying jobs in the medical industry.
