Understanding Supply & Demand!
Econ students at WCHS are learning what it's like to be an entrepreneur this week during the annual Econ Mall project. Students must come up with their own business idea, decide on a partner, figure out a product to sell and then hope for the best.
Some students sold donuts, cookies, pulled pork, tamales, cake pops and some just pop. Each business team is giving a cost production sheet to figure out their cost verses what they can sell the product for to create a profit margin. If they're products sold out they have to figure out how much more they could have made if they had more inventory and if the product didn't sell they had to figure out why.
Some students learned they had to lower their prices when items weren't selling while others raised their prices due to brisk sales. The best part of this project is that the students get to keep the cash from their profits.

Groundbreaking Held for Whiteland Community High School
Construction Project.
$235 Million Update to Whiteland Community High School Gets
Underway
November 6, 2023
Whiteland, IN
The Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation Board of Trustees broke ground Monday November 6, 2023, for what will be a five phase $235 million-dollar construction project. There will be a new three-story Academic Area with dozens of new classrooms, Student Activity Center and a Performing Arts Center with supporting instructional spaces for band, choir and drama students. There will also be updated cafeteria and kitchen areas. Additionally, the project includes a new Aquatic Center as well as the renovation and repurposing of several athletic areas. “One of the best things about this project is the safety and security it adds for our students and staff at the high school" says CPCSC Superintendent, Dr. Timothy Edsell. “All students will be in one building with more safe and secure entrances and with better supervision capabilities.” Edsell, who oversaw a multi-million-dollar construction project at his previous school district, says overseeing this expansion is one of the things that excited him about coming here.
School Board President, Dave Thompson, a former teacher and coach at Whiteland, says the main purpose of the project is to prepare for expected growth over the next ten to fifteen years. “There are homes and businesses going up all round the school district and we need to have the space ready for the students that will come here over the next decade”, says Thompson. He adds that the modernization of the high school will allow for the programs and STEM technology needed that will prepare our students for future success.
Skillman Corporation is leading the construction project. “Phase 1 got underway in October and will take about three years to complete”, says Skillman President, Dan King. We’re fortunate to have a great team on this build that includes Lancer Associates Architecture, Ice Miller and Baker Tilly, Municipal Advisors”. Despite a larger high school there will be increased parking and a more efficient traffic flow for students, parents, buses and pedestrian traffic. Based on current debt projections the school district is able to carry out this project without increasing property taxes. “There will be some slight inconveniences over the next few years but once this project is finished we will have a world-class high school campus everyone can be proud of”, concluded Dr. Edsell. The entire project is expected to be completed in late 2027.

It's Much More Than Plows & Cows!
Over the past century FFA has gone from young people being interested in farming to being excited about the innovations into the science of agricultural technology and solving the world's food insecurity issues. Some 70-thousand young FFA members are holding their 96th National Convention and Expo in Indianapolis through November 4th.
Our Whiteland FFA members enjoyed the kickoff concert featuring Lainey Wilson. They attended the general sessions and spent last night at Cinch’s World’s Toughest Rodeo! The four day event is expected to boost the Indianapolis economy by about $39 million dollars.

Warrior Way Service Project!
"This past Monday, Mr. Dostalik's Warrior Way class took a short trip to the Johnson County Early Learning Center to complete their annual service project. Students took this opportunity to plan five short activities to execute with their 25 students!
They learned a lot about the energy that young children have and enjoyed giving back to this group of fun students. This project was one step toward these students meeting their box 2 requirements toward graduation.
A big thanks to the Johnson County ELC for hosting our students!"
