New School Board Member Sworn In!
The Clark-Pleasant School Board got a new member, Tuesday night. Patrick Guilfoy, a long-time educator, was sworn in during a special meeting at the administration building. Guilfoy will serve in the seat left vacant by the passing of board member, Dave Thompson.
He's been in education for the past 20 years 5 of which were at Clark-Pleasant. He's spent 10 years in the classroom as an elementary teacher, 2 years as an instructional coach, 3 years as an assistant principal, and is entering his 6th year as an elementary principal in Franklin Township. While in those roles he's also coached baseball, volleyball, and math bowl.
Guilfoy called it an exciting time to serve and give back at Clark-Pleasant. "I'm looking forward to this opportunity to support our educators to provide our students with the best learning opportunities. I want to continue to keep our district moving forward". He says the key to success will be the district's great facilities, currently under construction, preparing for growth, and continuing to recruit and retain the best educators for our students.

Jumpstart to Kindergarten Camp helped Pre-K students who attended CP last year get a jumpstart by attending their new school for three half-days allowing them to familiarize themselves with their school and staff. The 3-day camp helps prepare kindergarteners for the transition.

WELCOME NEW CPCSC TEACHERS!!!
It's been a productive couple of days with our new CPCSC teachers. Curriculum Director, Brian Lovell, said, "I’m sure we gave them more information than they’ll ever remember, but these were great foundational days". Please welcome our new teachers.

On this Thankful Thursday, I want to say "Thank You!" to Dr. Edsell, Dr. Shipp, and the Clark-Pleasant Community School Board for surprising me last night at the school board meeting with an award for Recognition Of Excellence in Education. I went to the school board meeting to share an annual review of all the wonderful things CPEF has done this last school year and to hear my contract for an additional role I will be doing this upcoming school year get voted it, but I was completely unaware that I was also getting an award. What a wonderful surprise! I am so grateful of all the recognition I have received from the school in the last month. I am truly honored.

A Statement Regarding the Passing of Clark-Pleasant School Board Member, Dave Thompson.
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of School Board Member, Dave Thompson. Dave was not only a school board member but a man who was passionate about and fought for the constant improvement of educational opportunities in this school corporation. His mission was first and foremost to prepare our students for life but as a full-time teacher and coach for 40 years, he also spoke up for the rights of teachers, administrators, and Clark-Pleasant families.
Dave held the Pleasant Township seat on the board and just last year had served as board president. He attended Indiana State University, obtaining bachelor's and master’s degrees in Education. He taught at Clark-Pleasant Middle School for 39 years and coached high school wrestling and football for 40 years. As a coach, he is a member of the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame. He had 4 wrestling state champions during his tenure as coach.
Dave and his wife, Susan, a long-time English teacher at Whiteland Community High School, have two daughters, Brooke and Brette. Brooke teaches English at WCHS and serves as president of The Clark-Pleasant Education Association (CPEA). Brette, who also taught Biology at WCHS lives with her family in Fort Wayne. Mr. Thompson also leaves behind Isabella, Eleanor, and Vivian, his granddaughters.
“I will miss Dave Thompson. If you looked in the dictionary under “educator”, Dave’s name would be there”, says superintendent, Dr. Timothy Edsell. “He was a teacher, coach, mentor, and board member but most of all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. No one loved Clark-Pleasant Schools more than Dave Thompson”. Fellow board member and friend for 50 years, “Butch” Zike says all of Dave’s students thought the world of him, “Dave’s goals were not based on winning and losing but on making a kid’s life better”, said Zike. He says the school board will especially miss Dave’s common sense.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Thompson family.
Sincerely,
Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation.

Curious? Read On!
Unlocking children's potential is the goal of Camp Curiosity. Students from Johnson and some surrounding counties are involved in this dynamic and engaging educational camp going on, this week, at Grassy Creek Elementary.
These kids can dive into a world of fun-filled learning experiences designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking. From exciting science experiments to captivating storytelling sessions, the camp offers youngsters a diverse range of activities tailored to inspire their young minds. Today we found young people dissecting sharks, learning to build a roller coaster, and constructing cells with candy. Some enjoyed flying drones down the hallway.

On Tuesday, our Mental Health Team had the privilege of training some of our CPCSC transportation department on Youth Mental Health First Aid. By equipping our team with these vital skills, we're ensuring a safer and more supportive environment for our youth. Together, we're committed to recognizing and responding to mental health challenges, fostering a community of care and understanding. #YMHFA
